By now, you should know a bit about what Eventbrite is and how it works, as well as a bit about its legitimacy and safety standards. Now, how much does Eventbrite cost to use? That will be the focus of this lesson.
Is Eventbrite free?
Eventbrite is free to sign up for and use. It is also free if you wish to attend an event that has no cost, or to host an event that does not charge an admission fee. If you wish to host an event and charge for tickets, however, then you will have to pay per-ticket fees in order to use Eventbrite.
Eventbrite charges two fees for paid events. The first is a service fee, which is $1 plus 2.5% of the ticket price (this fee is capped at $20). The second is a transaction fee, which is charged when you accept payments for tickets through Eventbrite from major credit cards. This fee is 3% of the ticket price.
Note that the prices quoted above are the defaults for U.S.-based events. Prices may vary based on the country where the event is held, or if a different payment processor is used (such as PayPal or Authorize.net). For a list of fees for the different countries in which Eventbrite is available, see this help article on Eventbrite.
In most cases, you can choose to pass these fees on to event attendees. However, if you use PayPal to accept payments for tickets, you cannot pass on your PayPal payment processing fees to ticket buyers. You also cannot pass on your Eventbrite payment processing fees if you use PayPal Organizer to sell your tickets. However, you will not be charged Eventbrite service fees, so that's a silver lining!
There! Now you know what will or will not cost you money when you use Eventbrite! Next, for our final introductory article, we'll review Eventbrite's pros and cons.
