Looking to fly the friendly skies on your next out-of-town trip? Expedia lets you:
Pick whether you want to fly one-way, round-trip, or to multiple destinations.
Pick the airports that you want to fly to or from. For example, if you want to fly to New York City, you might want to land at John F. Kennedy Airport, or you may want to land at LaGuardia Airport, depending on which is closer to your exact destination.
Pick what airline you want to fly with. Air Canada, Westjet, American Airlines, United Airlines... Expedia carries listings for most commercial airliners.
Compare flights based on time, price, and more.
Go to www.expedia.com in your web browser and click Flights in the menu across the top.
You'll use the window on the left side of the screen to set things up. Click the buttons in the screenshot below to see what you need to do at each spot.
Click one of the buttons here to select whether you just want to search for a flight, or want to search for an additional service. (We’ll assume you just want a flight for the purposes of this tutorial.)
Click the button beside the respective choice to select it.
– Roundtrip: You will fly from one place to another, and then back.
– One-way: You will fly from one place to another, and then find your own way back.
– Multiple Destinations: You will fly to one place, then another, then another, etc.
(We’ll assume, for the purposes of this tutorial, that you want a round-trip flight.)
Click here and type in the place you want your flight to leave from. As you type, Expedia will suggest airports close to where you specify. Click one to select it.
Click here and select a date on the calendar that you want your departing flight to be on.
If you’re looking for your departing flight to be at- a specific time, click here and select a time from the drop down menu. You can also select general times like “Morning”, “Afternoon”, or “Evening”, or you can just leave it at “Any”.
Click here and type in the place you want to go to and have your return flight from. As you type, Expedia will suggest airports close to where you specify. Click one to select it.
Click here and select a date on the calendar that you want your return flight to be on.
If you’re looking for your return flight to be at a specific time, click here and select a time from the drop down menu. You can also select general times like “Morning”, “Afternoon”, or “Evening”, or you can just leave it at “Any”.
Click and select from the drop-down menus the number of adults, seniors, and children going on this trip.
If you have an airline that you trust and definitely want to book with, you can select it here to prioritize their flights. Or you can leave it at “No Preference”.
If you want to fly in style, you can click here and select “Premium Economy”, “Business”, or “First Class”. Or you can leave it at “Economy”.
When you’ve entered all of your information, click here to look for a flight.
Now you can look for your desired departing flight. You can click the categories across the top to filter your results by:
- Departure time
- Arrival time
- Flight Duration
You can also click the check boxes to the left to filter your results by:
- Nonstop vs. stopping flights
- Departure Time
In our example here, we've applied a filter so that we only see flights that go to LaGuardia Airport in New York, USA from Lester B. Pearson Airport in Toronto, Canada. We've also sorted them by departure time.
Note that the prices listed here are what you will pay for your flight if you select the least expensive return flight; some return flights may cost a little bit more.
Also note that prices may vary based on what version of Expedia's website you're using. In this example, we're using Expedia.ca (the Canadian version), so prices are in Canadian dollars.
Click Select when you find a flight that you like.
Next, you'll look for a return flight. You can sort and filter your results the same way you did while searching for an initial flight. Click Select next to a flight that works for you.
You'll now see a summary of your booking so far, as well as options to add other services. Scroll to the bottom and click Continue Booking if you're fine with what you have so far.
You'll now have to input your traveler information. All fields marked with an asterisk (*) need to be filled in. Be sure to enter your information exactly as it is on your passport or driver’s license (whichever you’ll be presenting to the airline when you check in at the airport). Click the buttons in the screenshot below to see what you need to do at each spot.
Click in the respective boxes here and type in your first, middle (optional), and last names.Be sure to enter your name exactly as it appears on your passport or driver’s license (whichever you’ll be presenting to the airline when you check in at the airport).
Phone Country Code
Click here and select your country from the drop-down menu, so that Expedia knows what country code to use if they need to contact you by phone.
Click here and type in a phone number that Expedia can use to get in contact with you by phone.
Click here and select from the drop-down menu which country issued your passport.
Click here and select your gender from the drop-down menu.
Date of Birth
Click on each of the drop-down menus to select the month, date, and year of your birth.
These are here if, for example, you’re looking for a specific seat or need special assistance getting on and off the airplane. Click on one and input whatever information you need to.
Click here when you’ve entered all of your information.
There are three things you need to do on the next screen. The first thing is decide if you want a travel protection plan. We'll assume that you don't, since travel insurance does basically the same things. Click the button beside "No, I don't need travel protection".
Next, you'll need to put in your billing information. We'll go into detail with this one. Click the buttons in the screenshot below to get an explanation of what information goes where.
Credit Card Type
Click on the small picture of the type of credit card that you use to select it.
Click here and type in your credit card number as it appears on the front of your credit card, with no spaces.
Click on each of the drop-down menus to select the month and year that your credit card expires.
Card Identification Number
Click here and type in your credit card’s security code (usually 3 or 4 digits). Click What’s This? if you need help finding where it is on your credit card.
Click here and type in your name exactly as it appears on your credit card.
Click the drop-down menu and select the country where you live.
Click in these boxes and type in your street address and (if you live in an apartment or condominium) your unit address.
Click here and type in the city where you live.
Click the drop-down menu and select the region where you live.
Click here and type in your mailing code.
Finally, you'll have to tell Expedia where to send your booking confirmation. Click the box beside "Email Address" and type in the email address that you want Expedia to use to contact you with.You can also click the check box here to remove the check if you don't want Expedia to send you extra offers.
The last window here contains terms, conditions, and other information that you'll want to review before your trip. Click Print or Save in the top-right corner if you want to do that later. Otherwise, click Complete Booking to receive a confirmation email.
