If you feel like taking yourself off Angie's List and trying one of its competitors, such as Thumbtack.com, you're probably going to want to get rid of your account first. Unfortunately, that's easier said than done, but you do have a couple of options.
Your best choice is to simply cancel your paid membership; you'll lose access to a few functions, but you'll still be able to use the website. As of June 2016, Angie's List now allows users to operate on the website with free accounts! You can also try getting customer service to completely erase your account; it might require some patience and perseverance, but it could work. Whatever you decide, we can show you how to do it.
Go to www.angieslist.com in your web browser of choice and sign into your account.
Move your mouse cursor over the Profile icon in the top-left corner of the member area page to make a drop-down menu appear, and then click Manage My Account.
Scroll down to the section marked "Manage My Membership" to see your current membership's type, length, renewal date, renewal type (i.e. automatic or manual), and price. To get in touch with someone who can change your membership, click Chat about My Membership.
Now, simply use the text chat interface that pops up to tell the customer service agent on the other end that you want your subscription cancelled.
Note that Angie's List has to receive your membership cancellation request before 5:00 PM (ET) on the day before your subscription is scheduled to renew. If they receive it any later than that, your membership will only be cancelled after your newest subscription expires. So submit your request well ahead of time!
There's no quick and easy process for deleting your Angie's List account, however, there are a few things you can try: sending an account closure request through the contact form for Angie's List (our recommended method), sending them a direct email, or calling their customer service team directly.
We'll cover the latter two methods a little later. For now, here's how to send Angie's List a message through their contact form requesting that they delete your account.
Open your web browser of choice, navigate to www.angieslist.com, and log into your account.
Scroll to the bottom of the main page and click Visit Our Support Center in the lower-right corner.
Next, in the box on the right-hand side of the support page, click Send a Message.
You will now have to fill out the contact form for Angie's List. Your first name, last name, and email address should automatically be filled in, as per the information on your account.
So, click the drop-down menu labelled "What Kind of Question Do You Have?" and select an option (we would suggest Membership Cancellation, Account Inquiries, or Other Questions or Concerns). Then, click in the box labelled "What Is the Subject?" and type in the specific nature of your question (ideally, something like 'I want to delete my account'). Then, click in the box labelled "What Is Your Question?" and write out the details of your request (like that you want your account deleted, and that your reason for wanting this is that you won't use your account anymore, you're worried about your privacy, etc.).
When you're finished, click Send Message. A customer service agent should respond to your request within 24 hours.
You can also try getting in touch with Angie's List directly through email or a phone call. If you want to email them, their address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you want to call them instead, their phone number is 1-888-944-LIST (5478). Alternatively, you can simply try dialing 711. Their phone lines are open on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (ET).
That's as much as we can tell you about how to get rid of your Angie's List membership or account! We're sorry that you didn't get what you wanted out of Angie's List, but hopefully, another service like it will have what you're looking for!
