Now that you've learnt how Meetup works, and have read our review, you may be thinking that it’s time to sign up for the service. You may want to look for a meetup that meets your interests, or even organize your own event. In this article, we’ll explain exactly how to sign up for Meetup; we'll even include a step-by-step guide with pictures so you don’t miss a single step!
Need a bit more of a detailed explanation? Check out our step-by-step instructions (with pictures!) below.
In this tutorial, we are using Google Chrome, but you can choose your favorite browser. Type “www.meetup.com” into the address bar.
By clicking Sign Up, you will be taken to the sign-up page, where you can enter your information.
Click Continue with Facebook to sign up for Meetup with your Facebook account, or click Continue with Google to sign up with your Google account. If you don't want to sign up for Meetup with either of these accounts, click Or Sign Up with Email underneath.
If you choose to sign up with Facebook or Google, you can skip the next two steps. Meetup will pull the information it needs from your profile on either of these two services, and you will have no need to verify your email address.
Click in the box labelled "Your Name" and type in your name; remember that other users will use this to identify you. Next, click in the box labelled "Email Address" and type in your email address. Finally, click in the box labelled "Password" and choose a password to protect your account with. When you’ve entered all of this information, click the red Sign Up button at the bottom of the page.
Meetup will immediately send an email to the email address you used to sign up. Open the email from “email@example.com” and click the blue link. If this link doesn’t work for some reason, copy and paste the link into your web browser's address bar.
After you click the verification link, Meetup will redirect you back to their sign up page. Click Log In at the bottom of the page, and you should automatically be taken to the home page, already signed in. If Meetup prompts you to enter your log-in information, enter the email address and password you chose (or select Facebook or Google, and enter the relevant information for either of those accounts).
That’s how you sign up for Meetup! To learn how to start using the website to find or arrange your own meetups, check out our next tutorial on how to use Meetup. You can also check out our introductory article on Meetup to learn some ways to start using Meetup.
TechBoomers offers free articles that teach people how to use technology to make their lives easier (and more fun!).
