If you’ve heard about what Pinterest is and how it works, you might be thinking it’s the website for you. But if you want to use it, you're going to need to know how to create an account so you can begin using it to inspire you. In this article, we’ll explain how to sign up, and give you step-by-step instructions (with pictures)!
Need a little more information? Check out the detailed instructions below to make sure you don’t miss a single step!
You can choose any web browser you like, but for this tutorial, we’ll be using Google Chrome.
You'll notice right off the top that you will be asked to log in before you can do anything. You can create an account by using your Facebook profile (if you have one), or with an email address and password.
Let's assume, for the purpose of this tutorial, that you don't have a Facebook account. In that case, click in the box marked "Email" and type in your email address, and then click in the box marked "Create a Password" and type in a password for your account (it will appear as bullet points to keep people from spying it). Then click Sign Up.
You'll be asked for a few more details before your registration is complete. Click in the box labelled "First and Last Name" and type in your first and last names, then click the box labelled "Age" and type in your numerical age (e.g. "55"). Then click either button beside "Male" or "Female" to select your gender. Finally, click Come On In.
Now, you'll be presented with a list of potential topics for you to "follow." Click the ones that you like to select them; if you change your mind on one, click it again to deselect it. You must select at least four. When you're done, click Follow at the bottom.
You'll next be asked to find and follow people you're connected with on social media. Click either Facebook or Twitter, and then click Find [Facebook/Twitter] Friends to log into the social media website that you chose and find friends to follow.
If you don't want to look for any friends to follow at the moment, you can click Skip at the bottom to skip this step. (You will have to confirm that this is really what you want to do.)
After finding some initial "pins" to show you, you will be informed that it has sent an email asking to confirm your email address. Log into the email account that you used to sign up, and open the email from Pinterest titled "Please Confirm Your Email." Then click Confirm Your Email.
You may have to log in again once you’ve completed this process, but otherwise, congratulations! You're all set up to use Pinterest!
