Searching on Tripping.com is one of the most fundamental ways to find bargains on rental properties all over the globe. In this lesson, we'll go over how to use the different search functions and change your search parameters.
Go to www.tripping.com in your web browser, where you should see the main search bar.
Click in the box labelled "What Is Your Destination?" and type in the place that you'd like to search for a rental property. A drop-down menu should appear with some suggestions; click one to select a place that Tripping.com has listings for.
Next, click in the box labelled "Check In" and use the calendar interface to select the date that you will be starting your stay at the rental property. Click on the arrows at the top to scroll through the months, and then click on a date to select it. Repeat this for the box labelled "Check Out".
When you've entered all of your information, click Search.
In the main search window on the right, you can see the different rental properties available at the location you selected and (if applicable) for the dates that you specified.
When you move your mouse cursor over a listing, it will cycle through different pictures of the property. Below the pictures, you can see how many bedrooms and bathrooms the property has, as well as a general rating of the property (if applicable, and as given on the websites that it's listed on).
At the bottom of the page, you can click the arrows and numbers to browse the different pages of listings.
At the bottom of a particular listing, you will see the websites that the property is listed on, as well as the price(s) that it is being listed for. Click one of these to go to the noted website and begin the booking process.
(NOTE: Some properties will be marked "Book Now on Tripping.com". We'll show you how you can book these immediately, without leaving the website, in our How to Book on Tripping.com tutorial!)
On the left-hand side of the page, you can see a map of the rental properties available in the area that you have specified.
Click on a location on the map marked with a house icon to view the listing on your current page of search results. Click on the picture that pops up to begin booking the property on the specified website, or click the "X" in the top-right corner to close the pop-up.
The map interface itself is powered by Google Maps, so you can click and hold the mouse button down, and then move the mouse around to move the map view. You can also click the "+" and "-" buttons to zoom the map in or out. Click Redo Search in Map to search for rental properties that match your criteria within the current map area.
Across the top of the screen, you can change your destination, check-in / check-out dates, minimum and/or maximum price, and number of travelers by clicking in the respective boxes and typing in and/or selecting new criteria. You can also click the Filter button to open additional options for your search results.
- set a minimum number of bedrooms or bathrooms, or a maximum number of occupants
- set a minimum and/or maximum listing price
- select a specific type of rental property that you want
- include properties only from specific booking websites
- include properties that have specific amenities (click Show More for more options)
- change prices to reflect nightly, weekly, or monthly rates
- change prices to be in a particular currency
Extra filtering criteria will appear in grey boxes beside the Filters button. Click the "X" beside a criterion to remove it.
You can also click the drop-down menu labelled Sort by Best Match to sort your search results by how well they match your criteria, or by price (either low to high, or high to low).
