How to Use Care.com to Find the Right Caregiver

Looking to hire a caregiver for your children, family member, home, or pets? Care.com has you covered! Not sure how to navigate the website? Don’t worry, we’ll help you out. In this article, we’ll show you how to use the basic features of the website so you can use it to find a caregiver to suit your needs.

Seeking a caregiver on Care.com

Sign up for a Care.com account

Go through the process of creating an account as a care seeker. You can learn how to do this with our tutorial on how to join Care.com if you need additional assistance.

Post your needs on Care.com

At the end of the care seeker sign up process, you’ll be walked through the steps of posting your needs so that caregivers can apply for the position. You can post additional job postings after creating your account as well. To do that:

  1. Go to www.care.com and sign to your account.

  2. In the top left corner, click the 3 bars to open the main menu.

  3. Click Post a Job.

  4. Enter some information about where you live and what you require.

  5. Once you answer the first few questions, you’ll be asked for a little more detail about the job, including the schedule and hours you require the caregiver to work, and a start date.

  6. When you’re done, click Share Your Needs at the bottom of the screen.

  7. View your job postings by clicking My Jobs in the main menu.

Review profiles of caregiving applicants

Click the Envelope in the top right corner to view your messages. Check your messages often to see if a caregiver has sent you a message to apply for the job you posted. Try to reply promptly and tell them whether you’re interested in meeting/interviewing them or not, so that if not, they can start looking for other opportunities.

Browse different categories of caregivers on Care.com

Once you’re signed in to your account, you’ll be able to browse different categories of caregivers. Here’s how:

  1. Click the Magnifying Glass in the top right corner.

  2. Indicate the type of caregiver you’re searching for, then type in your postal code so that you’ll see only those caregivers that are within your area. Then click Go.

  3. On the next screen, you’ll be able to browse the results of your search. You can filter the results using the options on the left side of your screen. If you see one you’re interested in, click Contact under their photo.

Figure out what to pay your caregiver

After signing in to your account, on your home screen you’ll see the “Hourly Rate in Your Region,” with the average hourly rate in your area.

Click Check Out Our Pay Calculator to see average pay rates depending on the specifics for your caregiver. Here’s an example of the pay calculator for a babysitter.

Get helpful tips and advice

Care provides their users with lots of helpful tips and advice. When you’re logged in to your account, you’ll see a “Tips & Information” section near the bottom of your screen. You’ll see a sampling of a few articles in that section. To see more helpful information, click Care.com Articles.

Edit your account settings

To edit your account settings, open the main menu, then click the gear button.

On the next screen, you’ll be able to see all of your account settings, including your personal information, membership, and privacy settings. If you want to edit/change a setting, click Edit in the top right corner of that section.

How to Join Care.com to Find a Caregiver

  1. Go to www.Care.com in your web browser. In the top right corner, click Join Now.

  2. On the next screen, enter your postal code in the text box at the top, and answer the questions below it. Click on the bubbles beside the answers you want to select. When you’re done, click Next.

  3. Enter your email address and choose a password for your account. Then click Next.

  4. Enter your first and last name, then select your gender, birth date, and how you heard about Care. Click Next to move on to the next step.

  5. You’ll be asked for some information about your child, family member, pet, etc. (depending on the type of care you indicated you’re looking for).

  6. The website will give you some suggestions for caregivers in your area. You can click the Check Mark if you’re interested, or the X if you’re not. Or, you can click Skip This Step to move on to finishing the sign-up process.

  7. Enter some information about the help you need. Including whether it’s a one-time job or a recurring, regular job. Indicate the total number of hours, the time of day, and a preferred start date.

  8. Finally, add a title and a description for the caregiving job you’d like to post. When you’re done, click Share Your Needs.

Looking to sign up as a caregiver? The process is slightly different than signing up as a care seeker. Here’s how to sign up as a caregiver.

  1. Go to www.Care.com in your web browser. In the top right corner, click Join Now.

  2. On the next screen, enter your postal code in the text box at the top, and answer the questions below it. Click on the bubbles beside the answers you want to select. When you’re done, click Next.

  3. Enter your email address and choose a password for your account. Then click Next.

  4. Enter your first and last name, then select your gender, birth date, and how you heard about the service. Click Next to move on to the next step.

  5. Fill in some information about the particular type of caregiving you do, your experience and skills, and services you can provide. When you’re done, click Next.

  6. Indicate the reason(s) why you’re browsing caregiving jobs, and the hourly rate you charge for your services. Click Next to move on.

  7. Add some information about yourself to tell potential employers more details about you, your skills, and your experience. You can choose to have that sent automatically to any caregiving jobs that you are deemed suitable for based on the information in your profile. When you’re done, click Submit.

  8. You will then see suggestions for caregiving jobs in your area. If you see one that appeals to you, click the Check Mark to apply for it, if not, click the X. If you don’t want to apply for any jobs right away, click Skip.

  9. Now you can add a photo to your profile to show people what you look like. Click Upload Photo to browse your computer for a photo of yourself to add to your profile. If you want to skip this for now, click I’ll Do This Later.

  10. Select the type of membership you’d like. You can select the “Limited” option if you want a free account with only the basic features, or choose one of the premium membership packages to access more features. Click whichever one you’d like, then click Select Membership.

    If you choose one of the premium options, you’ll be asked for your billing details. Enter your credit card information and billing address, then click Upgrade.

  11. Enter your contact information so potential employers can get in touch with you. Click on each contact method to verify your profile with an email address, phone number, and Facebook account.

  12. Finally, add more information to your profile – like education, languages you speak, and additional qualifications – to help you stand out to those looking to hire a caregiver. This is your chance to show off your experience and skills!
