How to Reset Your TED.com Password

If you're having trouble getting into your TED.com account — and you can't bear to use the website without being able to comment on videos, add them to your "Favourites" list, or organize them into themed playlists — here's how to get back in, and get a new password to boot.

Resetting your TED.com password

  1. Go to www.ted.com in your web browser and click Log In in the upper-right corner.

  2. When the log in box pops up, click Need Help Logging In?

  3. When you get to the next screen, click in the box labelled "Email" and type in the email address that you used to sign up for TED.com.  Then click Submit.  This will cause TED.com to send you an email that contains a hyperlink that you can use to reset your account password.

  4. Go to your email client and log in.  Look for the email from TED titled "Request to Reset Your TED Account Password", and click on it to open it.

Click the blue hyperlink in the email (blurred out here for privacy reasons) to begin resetting your TED.com account password

  5. On the screen to which you are taken, click in the box labelled "Password" and type in the password that you would like to use to protect your TED.com account from now on (remember that, as you are told here, your new password must contain at least 6 characters).  Then click Submit.

Alright!  You should be able to get back into your TED.com account now by using your new password.  If you'd like some tips on how to organize your passwords so that you won't lose them in the future, check out our How to Manage Passwords article (here).  We hope you continue to enjoy the new ideas you find on TED.com!

How to Change Your TED.com Password

TED.com is free to use and doesn't ask you for much personal information, so for the most part, your identity and financial information are okay while you're using it.  With that said, it would be a shame if someone broke into your account and started messing with your settings, or posed as you to leave a comment that embarrasses you or gets you in trouble.  Therefore, it wouldn't hurt to have a fairly strong password protecting your TED.com account to minimize the chances of this happening.  If you need some tips on how to make a strong password, check out this article.

Once you've come up with a good password, here's how to replace the one that you currently have on TED.com (if you feel that it's not already strong enough).

Changing your TED.com password

  1. Go to www.ted.com in your web browser and log in.

  2. Move your mouse cursor over your profile picture (it's in the top-right corner beside the search bar) and select Settings from the drop-down menu.

  3. First, click Password in the menu on the left-hand menu.  Then, click in the box labelled "New Password" and type in the password that you would like to use to secure your TED.com account from now on.  Next, click in the box labelled "Confirm New Password" and type in a copy of the new password that you just picked.  Finish up by clicking Save.
